While reflecting on the approaches to enhance science and research focused events, I had struggled with how to encourage large amounts of people to participate. However, a recent realisation brings me closer to a truth that a few people are often responsible for leading the world or their communities through great advancement. Instead of finding ways to ensure a large amount of people can deliver and participate in convenings around research progress – what we might need is provide a community around the people whose work can potentially transform our live.
This changes my view radically on how to implement and advance science communities locally. Instead of measuring our success by how large the crowd is to our science/research conversations, we would measure it by how much value researchers/scientists, who are using our platform to share their work, are getting to continue on their journeys.
Basically, our best bet is identifying inspiring researchers/research, and providing them with a small community of people who can be interested in their work, and will listen to them speak about it, provide valuable feedback and motivate them to continue on their journeys. This is what we should build. A community for inspiring researchers to get more inspired to advance their work and transform their fields and our lives.
